Saving Camelot: Don’t Drink the Koolaide

by Lynn Shepherd, CFP on October 11, 2008

It is not the end of the world in spite of what you’ve heard. Five short minutes to a new perspective. A silly and insightful video down memory lane. (Naturally, there is a deeper message. Can you find it?)

Find more videos like this on Yidio.com.

Life is seldom as it appears.

  • Mr. Peabody knows he’s a genious. But he still asks questions before acting. Do you?
  • By showering in their armour, the soldiers create the very thing they fear most, rust. What fears do you have that are self-fulfilling?
  • Solutions often come from unexpected sources. Are you open to new ideas?
  • We need leaders willing to use unconventional solutions and take action. It’s not enough to have ideas, you must act.
  • Termites?  Destruction of old ideas brings opportunity for needed change.

I know life is challenging. These challenges will not be resolved any time soon. We’ve come through hard times before. The Great Depression. World War I and II. Vietnam. World Trade Center. But through those times men and women of character shaped this nation. It is in times of despair that we lift each other up.

In challenge comes greatness. I believe in America and her people. I believe in you.

How to Survive a Bear Attack: First Step

by Lynn Shepherd, CFP on October 11, 2008

Bears are fast, deadly, and unpredictable. The first step in learning how to survive a bear attack, is Awareness.

Watch this video. If you’re like me, you’ll have to watch it several times to believe what you saw.

The wisdom of awareness often comes one minute too late. It’s easy to miss what you aren’t looking for, isn’t it?

Life is like that. We never think it is going to happen to us. Until it does. [click to continue...]

In God We Still Trust

by Lynn Shepherd, CFP on October 10, 2008

Be cautious with those you trust. With those you follow. In whose guidance you believe. In the friendships you cultivate. In the leaders you elect.

Trust the Truth

It’s the only thing that matters.

Trust: Assured reliance on the character, strength or truth of someone or something; Basis of reliance, faith, or hope; To place confidence in; Entrusted to another.

Trust. Shattered and, in a blinding moment, truth revealed.

For those of us who have lived long enough, we have been disillusioned, betrayed, and at some point, broken. And then we healed. Removing our masks of perfection, we grew wings.

Universal principles of wisdom are your pillars of strength in times of crisis.

Truth will Never Fail You

Truth pillars are your foundation in a life of uncertainty. Fundamentals do not waiver. Returning to reality, no longer distracted by the frivolous, you will immediately understand what is important.

Faith - Family - Friends

Gain wisdom in the valley of doubt. This is your gift to share with the world. It’s time to lead.

(Thanks to cousin, Lori, for giving me a heads up about the video.)

The Fox and the Goat: Who do you trust?

by Lynn Shepherd, CFP on October 8, 2008

Are you listening to a fox or trusted advisor?

By an unlucky chance a Fox fell into a deep well from which he could not get out.  A Goat passed by shortly after and asked the Fox what he was doing down there.

“Oh, have you not heard?”said the Fox, “there is going to be a great drought, so I jumped down here in order to be sure to have water by me.  Why don’t you come down too?”

The Goat thought well of this advice, and jumped down into the well.  But the Fox immediately jumped on her back, and by putting his foot on her long horns managed to jump up to the edge of the well.

“Good-bye, friend,” said the Fox, “Remember next time,
Never trust the advice of a man in difficulties.”

Whose guidance are you following?

Surrounding yourself with people who all spout the same jargon, from newscasters, brokers and so called

Mama Said There’d Be Days Like This

by Lynn Shepherd, CFP on October 8, 2008

Ups, downs, twists and turns. There are always days like this.

As much as we’d like the road of life to be smooth, the path we travel is often filled with potholes, detours,  and unexpected hairpin turns.

“Wear clean underwear,” she’d say. “Just in case.”

Yep … Mama said there would be days like this.

Prepare - Don’t Predict

You can’t predict the future. Change is always on the horizon, just a moment away. Prepare. For the unexpected. The unthinkable. The inevitable. How? [click to continue...]

Truth or Consequences - What Now?

by Lynn Shepherd, CFP on October 5, 2008

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed (wo)man is king. Irish Proverb

The 2008 turmoil in our financial markets has been a true “black swan” event. Improbable. Not expected. Life changing.

Anyone not living in a bubble could see a day of reckoning fast approaching, but we were all caught off guard by the swift fierceness of the meltdown.

Life as we know it cannot continue. This is not just about overspending by the government, the banks, or the Wall Street investment banks. This is about greed, short term thinking, bad judgment, and the pervasive self-interest of “what’s in it for me.” Change has to come at a fundamental level. It is [click to continue...]
